Program Overview
The Diploma in Nursing Extension at Uganda Christian Institute is tailored for practicing nursing assistants and enrolled nurses who wish to advance their skills and knowledge to become fully qualified registered nurses. This program provides comprehensive training in advanced nursing theory, clinical practice, and leadership to enhance the professional competence of nurses working in various healthcare settings.
The course blends classroom-based learning with supervised clinical practice, equipping students to deliver holistic nursing care, manage patients effectively, and assume greater responsibilities within healthcare teams.
Program Duration
The Nursing Extension program typically runs for two (2) years, designed to build upon prior nursing education and experience.
Minimum Academic Requirements for Intake
To be eligible for admission into the Diploma in Nursing Extension program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Certificate in Nursing from a recognized institution (Enrolled Nurse level)

Must have completed practical training and be currently registered as an Enrolled Nurse with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC)

Demonstrated competence in foundational nursing skills

Pass in English Language at Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) level or equivalent

Applicants with equivalent qualifications recognized by the UNMC may also be considered.
Additional Requirements

A valid medical fitness certificate confirming the applicant’s ability to undertake the course

Evidence of good professional conduct and recommendation from the current employer or supervisor

Successful candidates may be required to attend an interview or assessment.
