Program Overview
The Diploma in Midwifery Direct at Uganda Christian Institute prepares students to become skilled and compassionate midwives who provide essential maternal and newborn care. This comprehensive program combines theoretical knowledge with practical clinical training to ensure graduates can competently manage pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care, promoting safe motherhood and healthy families.
Students are trained to deliver quality midwifery services, support reproductive health education, and work effectively in healthcare teams. Graduates will be fully equipped to address the health needs of women and newborns in hospitals, clinics, and community settings.
Program Duration
The Diploma in Midwifery Direct program is a three (3) year course involving intensive classroom study, hands-on clinical practice, and community outreach.
Minimum Academic Requirements for Intake
Applicants must meet the following academic standards to be eligible for admission:

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE):

A minimum of Principal Pass in two (2) subjects, including Biology or Agriculture (Biological Sciences are preferred).

A pass in English Language is mandatory.

Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE):

At least five (5) credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Requirements

Applicants must present a valid medical certificate indicating fitness for midwifery practice.

Candidates should demonstrate good moral character.

An entrance interview may be conducted to assess the applicant’s suitability for the program.
